http://www.reefari.com More great fishing video action targetting the deep reefs in the coral Sea off Mackay Queensland. 4 & 5 way hookups were common with big Quality reef fish coming onboard. This was day three of our recent mothershipping charter to the outer Great Barrier reef some 200 kilometres offshore. Reefari’s specialty is targeting these deep reefs and shoals out in the coral sea, and relatively unfished and the video action shows. Big fish, 4 & 5 way hookups, Spanish Mackerel, Sharks and heaps more. The following report is a good summary of what went on. Day 3 went proudly to the Queenslanders!!
Day three: Time for the Maroons to put some runs on the board, and they were still keen to fish the deep. With these wide deep marks, it pays to look after them and not too fish them too hard, They can be susceptible to overfishing. The Shipping Channel off Mackay, is now suffering from several years of great fishing and is well short of the glory years gone past. Mothershipping charters brings out the best of both worlds, All the comforts of a big mothership, and the speed and fishing versatility of a dayboat and dories. These marks are well protected due to the large distances, and only fished once a year by us anyhow. The trophy Red emperor are getting harder to find and makes these trips all the worthwhile. The day started slow and we had to work several new marks before we found one with the fishing dial turned up to full. They’re only small marks in the middle of nowhere, some as small as a car, or small house, and you’ve got to line your drift up perfectly , The results were Awesome with the Maroons coming back with some great fishing and four way & five way hook-ups common. With a mixed bag of Red emperor, Nannygai, 70cm Spangled emperor and large Gold Spot cod, and Coral Trout, Day three went to the Maroons, and saved face for the Queenslanders. Go Queensland!! It’s great to see all rods loaded up with quality fish, and grunts and groans all round. I won’t bore you with all the details.
The Blues fired straight back with an 80cm Red emperor to Mark, and followed by the other unwanted red of the Great Barrier Reef, some monster Chinamen fish, which arguably pull harder than their famous red brothers, looks the good until you get to the surface, and then disappointment for the worn out angler, and north queensland sympathy (i.e. laughter allround from fellow anglers). The fishing was a bit slower and we continued to put more fish onboard, it’s tuff when you get Blase’ about the quality of the fishing. We trolled another shoal without much luck and found a new ledge nearby, which was on fire, with more reds, Trout, Nannygai and Kaos, a couple of drifts and it was time to call it quits and head back to base, with all good things coming to an end, it was time to start heading for home. The only regret was not getting to sound out this new fishing spot as it also was loaded with Potential with a Capital P, but that’s what keeps you coming back for more. The fishing was truly phenomenal and I’ve seen some great reef fishing, the quality and variety was amazing, the Guests, Crew Awesome, and this type of adventure is priceless and just can’t wait to do it all again. http://www.reefari.com Fishing mackay is just a quick fishing video and slideshow of some of the Highlights of 2009 with Reefari Fishing Charters, and this is only some of the catch. The fishing is truly phenomenal off Mackay and has even blown me away, with some Mega Catches and Mega fish. We’ve been fishing alot of remote untouched fishing reefs and shoals, and the results speak for themselves. Some of our bests were several Red emperor to 15 Kilograms, and heaps around the 10 kilo mark. Some extra large Nannygai with one going 15 kilos, another 12 kilos, and several around that 10 Kilogram Mark. Massive coral trout with Blue Spot’s pushing 10 kilogram or more. We did more deep water work this year with heaps of quality Bar Cheek coral trout up to 5 Kilo’s. The Giant Trevally fishing is world class with heaps of GT’s around the islands, and outer great barrier Reef and are a fish we’ll be seeing alot more of, Our best was two Monster pushing 35 kilo’s and numerous fish around the 20 kilo plus mark. Popper and stickbait fishing for these is something you must do, with spectacular surface strikes, and would have to be one of the most adrenaline pumping forms of fishing. Spanish Mackerel are also common and alot of fish are taken around the 20 Kilo plus, with our best pushing 30 Kilo. Don’t forget the goldspot cod, Some big fish pushing 20 kg +, with our best at 30 kilos, Just huge and always try and release these big fish as no good for eating. The boating and Fishing in Mackay is truly amazing and having travelled extensively haven’t see anything like it for quality and sport. Mackay is located in central queensland, about 1000 Kilometres north of brisbane, easily accessable by plane from Australia’s major cities. Hope you enjoy fishing Mackay.
http://www.reefari.com Come aboard Mako for a Mackay fishing Charter for a three day non-stop fishing adventure. This fishing charter was for three days fishing Steven’s Reef and Charlie’s Bommie, about 75 nautical miles from Mackay in the middle of the Great Barrier Reef. Some awesome fishing action with a great session on spanish Mackerel, 8 in 45 minutes to get everyone well and truly pumped. That was just the start, We had to leave the fish biting as we were after the Prized Red Emperor. With Jason Kennedy onboard from Southern Cross’s TV show “Fishin Trip”, keen to film some excellant Reef fishing with Red emperors to be the stars. Look out for it showing in October, highlighting some serious Red Emperor fishing from Mackay. The reef fishing was awesome with multiple hookups, heaps of fish, with a huge variety caught, and some quality fish, as the video shows. We ended up with about a dozen Red Emperor, so definately can’t complain, heaps of Spanish Mackerel, and too many too others, too numerous to mention. A monster 10.5 kg Sharky Mackerel was definately a highlight, biggest I’ve seen. Sally our new skipper of Mako, caught the biggest fish, a 25kilo cod which was towed and released. Great to See, Mackay is really cementing it’s place as some of the best fishing on offer on the east coast of Australia.
