Avet, Abu Garcia, Penn, Shimano are a few good brands. You get what you pay for.
@rippac86, 10′ rod, spin cast reel, few hundred yards of 50lb+ braid is good for surf fishing the first, second and third cuts. For long hauls ( kayaked baits ) use a heavy action 8-10′ surf rod, open face, several hundred yards of 100lb braid. For shark use a 8′ steel leader with 12/0+ circle hooks wrapped in electric tape. You can drop some cash on these rigs, so do your research, before you spend too much
