Most of the time we only use 20 or 30 pound braid for Jacks. Trial and Error is the best way to find them. You will also need to chum areas with good moving water.

How do you go about finding a large school of jacks? Will you see them breaking the water? Or is it just trial and error by checking several spots until you start catching them. Have fun by all means but ,these things are living creatures man! show them respect, ripping tails off your bait fish!!! A bent 6″ nail through the side of head…..OH the pain……..Yeh fish do feel pain. rods reels have breaking strain limits thats why they have drags on reels…..you may aswell use a hand line and haul it in….I hope the grouper was let go to fight another day they are a magnificent fish. All that said I fish myself 50 of my 60yrs and would luv to be in your shoes
