These beaches offer something for everyone, from protected beaches for family outings to the more untamed beaches that are a surfer’s paradise. Scuba dive or snorkel on the Elephant Coast or enjoy the holiday vibe at one of the South Coast’s four “blue flag” beaches.

The beaches offer plenty of relaxation and sporting opportunities, including surfing, boating, fishing and whale and dolphin watching, or for the more adventurous take a trip in a microlight to enjoy the spectacular view from above. It is also a surfer’s paradise, offering some of the best waves in the country. There are great waves wherever you go, with warm waters all year around, so that you need little more than a spring wetsuit for warmth, and on hot summer days even this is not a necessity.

Winter heralds the start of the true surf season, with breezy eight-foot swells sweeping in from the Cape coast between May and August. The swells are a bit smaller in the summer months, offering fun surf at the many beach breaks, with most surfers taking advantage of the wind-free mornings before the north-eastern winds pick up.

With some 600 kilometres of coastline only a handful of popular breaks get crowded, but many quieter waves can be found along the coast, with many good roads making for easy access. With all this on offer any surf fanatic would be sorry to miss this awesome coastline, and your adventure could even find you surfing a strip of coast that has never before been touched!

The KZN Southcoast is home to a range of “Blue flag” beaches.

MARGATE BEACH:

A mile long beach on the South Coast, ideal for swimming, bodyboarding and surfing. There is also a famous fishing spot off a specially-constructed pier. Margate is a vibrant holiday town with dozens of restaurants, bars and shops, plus accommodation to suit any budget.

MARINA / SAN LAMEER:

A beautiful, long sandy beach with an adjacent tidal pool. The beach is located between Southbroom and San Lameer and is close to the Trafalgar Marine Reserve and Mpenjati river mouth and lagoon. Lifeguards are always in attendance and facilities are maintained in top class standards throughout the year. Easy access for the disabled

RAMSGATE BEACH:

Ramsgate is a quaint village just south of Margate. A quiet beach with picnic facilities in a park-like setting provides a peaceful haven from the bustling beach towns. An easy walking trail extends southwards from Ramsgate towards the picturesque Southbroom beach and lagoon.

HIBBERDENE BEACH:

Based on the south coast of KwaZulu-Natal, Hibberdene is a relatively narrow beach which is sheltered from the southerly winds. The often steeply sloped beach has good waves. A grassy picnic area makes it ideal for families. A new boat launching site has been developed alongside the Blue Flag area.

LUCIEN BEACH:

Lucien beach, which lies to the north east of Margate main beach, is a quiet but popular beach accessible by a steep set of stairs. Top class lifesaving facilities are in place in a new building which has lots of parking. The elevated parking area provides good views of the sea and coast stretching towards Margate. A good place to park and then walk along the coast towards Uvongo – a pleasant walk with views of dolphins and other sea-life. Easily accessible from the adjacent holiday flats.

WILLARD BEACH:

This is the main swimming beach in Ballito, ‘Pearl’ of the North Coast. A 2.4 km boardwalk follows the shoreline southwards providing an opportunity for an easy stroll with spectacular views of bays and coves. A more rugged trail extends northwards from Willard to Shaka’s Rock which takes you through a hole in a cliff – best attempted at low tide.

There are many ways to fish, Here I will introduce some fishing methods that I familiar with to you.

Fly Fishing
With fly fishing, various materials are used to design a very lightweight lure called a fly. Fish think the fly is an insect and they take the bait on, or just above, the surface of the water. It takes a little practice, but fly fishing is a pure and exciting way to fish.

Bait Casting
Bait casting is a style of fishing that relies on the weight of the lure to extend the line into the target area. Bait casting involves a revolving-spool reel (or “free spool”) mounted on the topside of the rod. Bait casting is definitely an acquired skill. Once you get the hang of the technique (check out the casting animation), you will be casting your lures right on target into the structures where fish are feeding and hanging out.

Still Fishing
Still fishing is a versatile way to go. You can do it from a pier, a bridge, an anchored boat or from shore. You can still fish on the bottom or off the bottom in ponds, lakes, rivers and streams for a variety of species. And you can still fish during most seasons and during any part of the day. Your equipment and the size of the hooks and bait you use depends on what kind of fish you¹re after. But your best equipment for still fishing is patience. You have to wait for the fish to bite.

Drift Fishing
Drift fishing allows you to fish over a variety of habitats as your boat drifts with the currents or wind movement. You can drift fish on the bottom or change the depth with a bobber or float. Natural baits work best. But jigs, lures and artificial flies will produce good results, too. You can drift fish on ponds, lakes, rivers and streams any time of the day and year.

If you are into big game fishing, you should be aware that you need to have a very durable fishing rod that is capable of resisting even the heaviest drag settings. Although choosing the best rod depends on what you prefer most, you also have to base your choice on the best performing rod. One thing that you have to remember when looking into fishing rods is its mechanism. Make sure that the rod has fast actions. This is what you can get with Shimano Compre rods. The next thing that you should consider is the size or length of the rod. The most appropriate is a rod that measures at least 6 feet. On the other hand, its base has to range between 3/8 inches to 5/16 inches. With all the fishing rods in the market, you have to choose a leading brand. When it comes to quality fishing rods, Shimano Compre series is among the best.

The Spinning Rods of Shimano Compre Series

The Shimano Compre rods perform really well because of its quality material, which is primarily the IM-8 graphite. When it comes to walleye fishing rods, the specifics of the spinning rods of the Shimano Compre series are perfect. The length of these rods measures 6 ½ feet. Their line weight ranges between 10 lbs to 20 lbs. On the other hand, the weight of the lure ranges from 0.1 oz to 1 oz. The action and performance rating of the Shimano rods is very fast. The starting cost of the Shimano Compre rods begin at $79.99. The butt caps are made of composite cork. The rods also come with dark cherry colored-finish and gold inserts.

Shimano Compre Rods: The Advantages

The spinning rods under the Shimano Compre series provide several advantages. One of these is its warranty program, which is for limited lifetime. You can avail of this benefit when you purchase Shimano rods over a participating dealer’s counter. If there is a defect with the fishing rod or it cannot function well, you can bring it to its dealer or any retailer selling Shimano fishing equipment. These stores offer instant replacements for the rods. Shimano is offering this advantage since it is dedicated to satisfy its buyers. The second advantage that comes with Shimano Compre rods and other rods from the maker is the low starting cost of some rods. The third advantage of the Compre series is the rods’ exposed blank. The blank lets the angler reach into structures that have deep lengths. The Shimano Compre series rods all have quick mechanisms, providing focused casting within long distances. This advantage also provides precise navigation in between the structures.

Shimano Compre Series: The Drawbacks

While the Shimano Compre rods come with plenty of benefits, these also have disadvantages. One of these is the less-than-perfect sensitivity of the reel seat of the rods. Sad to say, there are better reel seats than this. There are fish varieties that strike fast. Since the sensitivity of the Shimano Compre series falls short, it does not amount to the other rods in the industry.

When you want to buy your own Shimano Compre rod, you can go online. The Internet is full of sites that offer wide selections of Shimano rods, and one of these is Sea Isle Tackle.

I live in San Diego, and I just discovered a new way of fishing (to me it’s new). And I was just wondering where is the best beach in San Diego to surf fish? Also if you can give me some tips/what to use when I go surf fishing (gear), that will be great thanks.
Also can you tell me if i need a license. I’m 13
Grand Master Basser, I’m a newbe so can you tell me what’s a 2-Rod Verification

Take your pick out of San Onofre State Beach, Oceanside City Beach Environs, Carlsbad State Beach, Leucadia, Encinitas, Solana Beach, Cardiff Beaches, Del Mar Beaches, Torrey Pines State Beach and Park, La Jolla Beaches, La Jolla Reefs, Pacific Beach, Mission Bay, Mission Beach, Ocean Beach, Point Loma Beaches, Coronado Municipal Beach, Silver Strand State Beach, and Imperial Beach.

Take a long 10 or 12 foot surf rod with a spinning reel loaded with 15 pound line, some baitholder hooks and some mussles for surf perch, skates, and rays. Take a shorter ultralight spinning rod with 4 or 6 pound test for light line for tossing sand crabs into the surf.

Edit:
No license needed. You will need it when you’re 16. Along with a saltwater and 2-rod verification.

My friend told me that I don’t need a fishing license to fish in some lakes/rivers because they can make you pay a fee to fish for a day? Do any of you know a place in northern Virginia that you can do this or at least a place where they don’t check if you have one. Btw do I still need to buy a fishing license if I’m only planning to catch and release?

fishing licenses are required for department managed waters. any private impoundments that dont recieve state assistance do not require fishing licenses.

My boyfriend and i are looking to take an 8-10 hr deep sea fishing trip in port aransas at the beginning of November i was wondering if that is a good time to go? and …….
What all we would need to bring?
What are our chances of catching anything?…can you take your own live bait?
Which is a good one to take Dolphin Dock’s or Captain Kelly’s i read good and bad about them both?

Dolphin Dock’s either the party boats or private charters. Always been great trips with them. Great time for tuna, snapper and grouper.
As for live bait give them a call.

0 Surf fishing with plastic grubs.ZUMA BEACH California. Barred Surf Perch, Walleye Surf Perch, and California Halibut caught with plastic grubs and light line in the shore break. End of winter, mid day, scattered clouds, rising tide and high barometer meant epic surf fishing. There was a trench just offshore. Rocky cobbles on bottom, rising tide, and rough water meant that halibut shouldn’t have been there. It was a gift!
