I am headed to Myrtle Beach for just a couple days… I am a freshwater fisherman but would really like to do some surf fishing while there. Normally I would want to target a certain type of fish but since my stay will be so short, I just want to catch some, any kind, of fish. What are my best odds?

Surf Fishing is all about targeting fish that make a living from food that is stirred up by the waves, and tide movement. These fish often dig in the sand or mud for crabs etc. Essentially scavengers!

You need to be able to cast your line approx 40-50 yards, or behind the breaking waves if possible. A local tackle shop might be able to advise you on the best sinker to attach to your line, as the sinker does most of the work when casting out.

Do a search on You Tube as well.

Fishing is limited to rainbow trout and brown trout.

Does that that you can only fish rainbow and brown trout?
Or does it mean that you cannot fish rainbow and brown trout or maybe you can but not a lot, but you can fish other fish?

Taken correctly, you can can drag up rubber boots all day, but rainbow trout and brown trout are the only species of fish that you are allowed to catch and take home. Anything else that you catch must be removed from the line and be put back into the water.

I’m writing a coursework speech for my english lesson on What Makes Me Mad.
And I was wondering what is the difference between Big-game fishing and deep sea fishing? Best answer gets an easy 10 points!

In general, deep-sea fishing is fishing in the ocean from a boat a ways from shore. You can target small, medium, or large fish. I’ve been on offshore trips which came in with lots of tiny (under 10 pound) yellowfin tuna — this is definitely deep sea fishing, but definitely not big game fishing.

Big game fishing refers to targeting big fish (100 pounds and up in my experience). This generally requires specialized heavy tackle and methods, big baits/lures, etc. The fish targeted include marlin, big tuna, big sharks, and possibly others.

When you’re looking for to purchase fishing rods, you should know that it’s not a one-size-fits-all market. You wouldn’t buy a Ferrari if you just wanted to drive the kids to school and go to the grocery store just like you wouldn’t buy a Dodge Caravan for street racing. You have to know your purpose before purchasing the right fishing equipment for the tasks ahead.

Let’s look at some of the different types of fishing you might want to consider and how that might influence the purchase of your fishing rods.

Fishing Rods for Inshore Fishing

If you’re doing some inshore fishing, you need to realize what that means: working in shallow water and trying to catch fairly small fish. What you are going to look for in the fishing rods is one that will be heavy enough to pull in decent size fish but you want to choose one that is lightweight enough that you can cast it easily without causing your body to ache the next day.

You’ll probably want to look for either casting or spinning rods. These would also be good choices if you’re going to be doing bottom fishing, such as for catfish and other fish that stay close to the bottom of watery areas.

Don’t confuse these fishing rods with what you would need for inshore fly fishing. For that, you’ll still need to purchase fly fishing equipment.

Fishing Rods for Offshore Fishing

When you’re going to be doing offshore fishing, you’re going to want a rod that can handle whatever you throw at it. No matter what type of offshore fishing you’re doing you can expect to spend more the fishing rods you’ll need than you would for ordinary fishing equipment. For example, if you’re going to go trolling then you can expect to pay around $1,000. You may be able to find some cheaper options but you’ll want to shop around and pay attention to the quality of the item before you buy.

Bottom fishing is another example. While you can use the same equipment as you would for inshore fishing, you’d probably want something a little more substantial, especially if you are going to be hunting for big fish. These fishing rods are usually also heavier and less flexible than the ones used for trolling.

Fishing Rods for Surf and Pier Fishing

If you’re going to be doing fishing in the surf or off of a pier, you’ll probably want to look into some fairly specialized equipment. Surf rods are usually designed to help you cast further so that you can actually reach the fish. These rods can also be used for pier fishing as can most types of inshore fishing. However, you’ll want to still focus on choosing equipment that feels comfortable for you.

Looking for Specific Fishing Rods

One of the bigger challenges you’re likely to face is finding these fishing rods at your local store. Instead you should choose an online site like Sea Isle Tackle which has a larger selection to choose from.

If you like outdoors, especially shallow or deep waters, fishing could be one hobby you might contemplate. Of late, the hobby is becoming expensive, with the costs of rods, lines, hooks and tackles going up. Add to that the costs of booking a fine fishing holiday at a decent location. Fishing, angling, trawling, trapping, etc are all techniques of various kinds. The most usual technique that hobbyists seek is angling.

Fresh water fishing is the most sought after hobby of holiday seekers. People who don’t have this emotional attachment to fishing might think it a waste to visit other countries solely for the purpose of fishing –anglers know better. They spend much time, money and effort to catch a special fish – either edible or inedible. Whatever you look for – an exotic species, the heaviest catch or fishing at the most celebrated fishing locations, the choices are endless. You still have thousands of lakes and rivers not fished, even if you spend your whole life fishing in a new location every day – although it can bore you to death.

Trout fishing, fly fishing, bass fishing, ice fishing, carp fishing, game fishing, catch and release fishing, salt water fly fishing, kayak sport fishing, the choices for an engaging holiday are endless. You can just go fishing on yourself or compete against other anglers, on the race to the longest or heaviest fish. Or maybe you go open seas, hunting for tuna, sharks, mackerel, etc with your big game fishing competition and adventures. Maybe you take the fish home for a delicious meal of give it away for others in case you don’t want to eat your catch.

Fishing locations are usually recognised by local authorities and you should be knowledgeable about the locations where you can fish. Before going fishing, you should also get a clear idea about the restrictions you have – including the maximum fish (by weight) one can catch in a day and the restrictions to catch a specific species. Strictly following the guidelines is important, as you don’t want uncomfortable and unwanted moments later.

Fish species data, rivers and streams, fishing forecasts and fishing reports are also published on a regular basis by the organizations and travel agents that offer fishing holidays. If looking for salt water fishing, you might also take a look at the tide charts and forecasts. It is not just about getting the forecasts and guidelines – it is also about application of the information to ensure a memorable fishing experience. You can spend the whole time without a single fish or can get more than you are legally allowed to catch in a matter of 30 minutes. It is not always about the techniques you use – it is also (sometimes) about the luck you have.

Fishing holidays can always guarantee you some good time, enjoying the freshness of nature and the thrills of chasing a dream. Let fishing be in your itinerary, in the next vacation you are planning.

If you’re going for a deep sea fishing trip, one great destination would be Miami. This city is filled to the brim with numerous thrilling entertainment opportunities. Starting from its immaculate white sand beaches up to its world class museums, Miami would never run out of activities to cater you.

Nevertheless, one of the most popular activities in Miami would be deep sea fishing. It is an exquisite  spot for such an activity because of the “Gulf stream”, which is a river that is part of the Atlantic Ocean originating from the Gulf of Mexico’s warm currents.

The slightly warmer currents of this stream are actually utilized as a highway for different kinds of migrating fish. You can choose from a great variety of fishes, small or big. The most popular choices include: pan fishes, big game fishes, kingfish, and sailfish. These and many more are prevalent in Miami’s turquoise waters.

Although there’s a lot of deep sea fishing charters that are available coming from Ft. Lauderdale going to Miami, there are those that stand out, which have credible reputations for class, comfort and catch!

Reel Adventure Charters

First off is Reel Adventure Charters; in which you have “Spellbound”, a 56 ft charter fishing boat. It is considered to be the number 1 charter fishing boat around Miami Beach, for whatever kind of fishing activity you are into; whether it be light tackle fishing, deep sea charter to big game fishing.

From the docks of Reel Adventure Charters, you’ll be in the Gulf Stream in no time! In fact it only takes about 10 minutes travel time to go to the stream. This advantage in distance makes their record for big catches quite an impressive one.

Charters are very comfortable, usually with a maximum of 6 people. If you’ll be having a party of 2 or 3 only, you can then arrange for “split charters”. They provide you with everything you need, except for your drinks and food.

Sea Cross Sportfishing

If you want a charter with the best modern gadgets and comfort, then the Sea Cross would be perfect for you. Their Custom Rigged Hatteras Sportfishing Yacht would definitely amaze you with all their amenities, such as live well, outriggers, full air conditioning,top-of-the-line tackle and rods, and state of the art electronic gadgets. In fact, they are fully specked and ready to travel anywhere starting from the Florida Keys up to the Bahamas!

They can definitely make your fishing dreams true! They have specialist personnel that have the skills necessary for you to find exactly whatever it is you are looking for. They specialize in all kinds of fishing adventures, such as tarpon to sailfish. They also provide services like long range weekend trips, split charters, multi-boat charters, corporate charters, and night fishing.

Free Spool Sportfishing

Situated at Miami Beach’s north end, Haulover Bay, you can find Free Spool. Their captain, a premiere fishing guide in Miami area, has been helping people to fish since 1986. Whether you’re interested in fishing the reef, shallows, or off-shore, He could bring you there.

Keys and Bahamas trips can also be arranged. However, they do not have “split charters”, meaning once you book for the boat, you would have it all for yourself; no more fishing with strangers. They can arrange full or half day charters, for a maximum of 4 people. So if you are looking for a really exquisite adventure with an expert “old school” captain, try out Free Spool!

What lures should i use for surf fishing on the oregon coast?
Im going surf fishing at the oregon coast about 3-5 miles from Pacific city and i was wondering what type of fish are there? what are the dangers of surf fishing? what lures should i use? what fish are edible? any answers are appreciated, thank you.

After having visited off that coast and fished you can use any kind of spinner type lure or the old fashioned huge rapala lures to catch all sorts of fish such as mackerel and some salmon type fish and some grouper and some really fun pickerel and good luck with your fishing.
